Breaking her adversary’s power serve, Madison’s play settled into a rally pattern consisting of two baseline shots followed by a cross-court pass with a wicked top spin. If her rival was able to chase the ball down and loft it back, Madison’s speed and quickness at the net allowed her to easily position herself to put it away with an unreturnable high bounce. As Madison’s confidence returned and her strategy dictated her shots, Madison took point after point while taking control at the net.
